Clinical Evaluation of Josamycin

Abstract
Josamycin a new macrolide antibiotic, was given orally to patients 18 with various acute infections; seven with pneumonia, one with bronchiectasis, three with tonsillitis four with biliary tract infection, two with septicemia and one with skin infection (Impetigo). The results were satisfactory in nine cases and good in five out of 18, overall effectivity rate being 77.8%. No side effects were observed except in two cases, who developed anorexia, nausea and/or skin eruptions with pruritus. No hepatic and renal damages were noted as determined, before and after treatment, by SGOT, SGPT, BSP retention, BUN and NPN levels in all cases.
